California Community College System Gets Expanded Collaboration Tools

CCC Confer, a project out of Palomar College in San Marcos, CA, is expanding its Web collaboration capabilities. The organization, which provides Web-based conferencing capabilities for the massive California Community College System (CCCS) enterprise-wide, has upgraded to the Elluminate Learning Suite unlimited license.

CCCS is the largest higher education system in the world. It comprises 110 campuses in 72 districts, 64 educational centers, and 20 district offices. It employs 85,000 faculty and staff and serves some 2.5 million students. CCC Confer handled the initial deployment of Elluminate Live for the California Community College System back in July 2007.

CCC Confer integrates the Elluminate tools into its portal "to facilitate use for meeting, training, tutoring, student and library services, and a wide variety of online classes," according to the organization. The upgrade will allow the system to use additional tools that have been released in the suite since the initial deployment.

The Elluminate Learning Suite is an expanded collection of Elluminate's collaborative learning tools. It includes Elluminate Live, an e-learning, conferencing, and online collaboration tool; Elluminate Publish, a tool used to create reusable learning content from Elluminate Live recordings; and Elluminate Plan, a tool designed to help instructors and instructional designers organize and package content for online sessions prior to the session being conducted live.

"I continue to be excited about our relationship with Elluminate and the many tools they bring to the table," said CCC Confer Project Director Blaine Morrow in a statement released Wednesday. "It is Elluminate's people, products, and spirit of partnership in providing a cost-effective solution in this time of economic downturn that makes the difference. We've seen tremendous growth in the use of e-conferencing throughout our system, and we are able to accommodate that growth with robust tools, a flexible approach to service and support, and the same high standards that have already made CCC Confer so successful."
