Angel Learning To Throttle Up Digital Media, Content Management in Updated LMS
Angel Learning this week previewed a forthcoming update to its learning management system, Angel LMS 7.4. The update, currently in an open field trial, incorporates new mashup capabilities, grading enhancements, and templates, as well as new administration, development, and content management features.
Angel LMS is a learning management system designed for colleges, universities, and K-12 systems. The new 7.4 release focuses largely on new features for bringing a wider range of course materials into the learning process, including support for mashups using media from outside sources (such as YouTube and Picasa), RSS feeds (incorporated into courses), and a new template-based lesson plan builder.
In the category of content management, the new version sees enhancements to Learning Object Repositories for more efficient sharing of content. It also adds the ability to export to the IMS Common Cartridge format.
And in the category of assessments, the new version adds a revamped gradebook interface, new grading rubrics, expanded reporting, pre- and post-course assessments, and new analytics.
Other new features include:
- Central management of multiple sites through and institutional directory;
- Expanded control of roles and rights assignment and management;
- Scheduling of automated course migrations; and
- Scheduling of automatic course backup.
Angel LMS 7.4 is expected to be released this spring. An open field trial, offering administrators a full working copy of the new version, began yesterday. ( It had previously been in a "limited field trial" involving 1,000 students and "dozens of courses," according to Angel.) Further information can be found here.
