Epson Debuts 4 Sub-$1,000 LCD projectors

Epson has introduced four new sub-$1,000 LCD multimedia projectors for education. The new models are designed to provide up to 6,000 hours of lamp life and include features for classroom use like microphone input, blackboard and whiteboard modes, and support for computer-free PowerPoint presentations.

The four new models include the PowerLite 84, PowerLite 85, PowerLite 825, and PowerLite 826W. The 84 and 85 each offer 2,600 lumens of brightness and sport resolutions of 1,024 x 768 (XGA).

The PowerLite 825 offers a brightness of 3,000 lumens and an XGA resolution. The PowerLite 826W sports a 16:10 WXGA resolution (1,280 x 800) and a brightness of 2,500 lumens. Both offer network-based control and monitoring via RJ-45, as well as computer-free connectivity for presentations via a USB port.

Other features in common between all of the newly introduced projectors include:

  • Built-in 10 watt speaker;
  • Closed caption decoder;
  • Microphone input;
  • Lamp life up to 6,000 hours in economy mode; and
  • Eight color presentation modes for use on whiteboards, blackboards, and other surfaces.

The PowerLite 85, 825, and 826W also include EMP Monitor software for broadcasting information to the projectors over a network, including emergency communications.

The PowerLite 84 and PowerLite 85 will be available in May for $799 and $899, respectively. The PowerLite 825 and PowerLite 826W will be available in June for $999 each. The 85 offers computer-free connectivity for presentations via a USB port and network control.
