Valdosta State Adopts Online Tutoring for Students

As demands for tutoring have skyrocketed in recent years, Valdosta State University in Georgia has signed on with AskOnline to provide online tutoring services for its students.

AskOnline is a Web-based platform that connects a university's tutors with students via a Web interface, allowing students to seek help at any time and from any location. Aside from the Web-based communications platform, AskOnline also provides scheduling, reporting, and management tools.

Valdosta State said the move came in response to increasing demands for tutoring services at its Student Success Center--about 9,000 tutoring-specific visits last year. To handle the demand without the need to hire a large number of additional tutors, the university went with the online system, which has the added advantage of providing flexible scheduling for students who may be unable to seek tutoring during daytime business hours.

Even though we have an increased demand for our services, I was not willing to compromise on the quality of tutoring our students receive. I really like the fact that with AskOnline my students will still be supported by my tutors in the AskOnline environment," said Chere Peguesse, director of the Student Success Center at Valdosta State, in a prepared statement. "The product is simple to use but has a great deal of functionality and I was impressed with AskOnline's availability and helpfulness during the evaluation process."

Valdosta State serves approximately 11,500 students in undergraduate and graduate programs and employs 585 faculty, 330 on a full-time basis.
