JICS 7.0 Gets Faster Interface, Advanced Customization

Jenzabar has released Jenzabar Internet Campus Solution (JICS) 7.0, an update to the company's portal solution or higher education. The new release includes performance improvements to the interface and new customization options.
JICS is a higher education portal built on Microsoft's .NET framework. It's designed to provide constituents with access to content specific to their defined roles (ranging from students all the way down to administrators) and integrates with Jenzabar ERP, providing "a single point of access to Web-based self-service, e-learning, communications, and community-building applications."
The new version 7.0 achieves improved performance through the adoption of the .NET 3.5 framework. It also adds new capabilities for customizing portals and expanded password security.
Other new features include:
- A news and blog portlet with support for both text and images;
- Support for blogging and posting comments within JICS; and
- Support for RSS subscriptions for specific types of content.

In other Jenzabar news, the Jenzabar Foundation recently announced the winners of its 2009 Student Leadership Awards. The program recognizes higher education organizations for community service leadership.
The 2009 winners included:
- Claremont McKenna College (Claremont, CA) for SOURCE, a student organization that helps non-profits improve their operations;
- Edgewood College (Madison. WI) for M3C Fellows, which provides provides after-school support for kids in a Madison homeless shelter;
- Flagler College (St. Augustine, FL) for Flagler College Students in Free Enterprise for promoting ethics in business;
- Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, NH) for Reality Check, which is a student group that performs at schools to promote sobriety and other lifestyle choices to teens;
- Grove City College (Grove City, PA) for the Student Philanthropy Project for helping students engage in philanthropic endeavors;
- Keuka College (Keuka Park, NY) for the Up 'til Dawn Program, which raises funds for and promotes awareness of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital;
- MIT (Cambridge, MA) for the Lutheran Episcopal Ministry, which helps renovate churches for energy efficiency;
- University of Dubuque (Dubuque, IL) for Web of Life Student Environmental Organization, which promotes environmental awareness;
- University of Saint Francis (Fort Wayne, IN) for One Block at a Time, which aims to provide homes for underprivileged Haitians; and
- University of Tulsa (Tulsa, OK) for SENEA Project, which develops sustainable energy model projects designed to serve poor minorities in northeastern Asia.
Grant winners were selected from about 150 entries from the 2008/2009 academic year. Each winner will each receive $5,000 to help them continue their work. Further information about the program can be found here.
