U Buffalo SUNY Technology Transfer Grant Supports Rehabilitation Technologies for the Disabled
The University at Buffalo, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, has received a nearly $1 million grant to support its technology transfer efforts related specifically to technologies developed for individuals with disabilities.
The grant, awarded at the end of September through the United States Department of Education's National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, is designed to help the university transfer rehabilitation technologies developed with federal funding into "commercial and non-commercial products that will benefit individuals with disabilities," according to ED.
"We want to develop the resources to maximize the full inclusion of people with disabilities into society," said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in a prepared statement. "The grant will help design rehabilitation technology that enables individuals with disabilities to fully integrate into employment, independent living, and economic and social self-sufficiency."
The $924,512 grant will fund the University at Buffalo's Center on Knowledge Translation for Technology Transfer, which will support research into factors that contribute to successful technology transfer; development of a framework for planning and progress tracking; training and technical assistance; and brokering of partnerships between developers and industry.
