Plagiarism May Be Rife in Higher Ed Applications
Plagiarism appears to be endemic in applications, according to a recently published study by iParadigms. The company examined 453,000 applications submitted to institutions of higher ed and found that 44 percent of the personal statements contained matching text and that 36 percent contained significant matching text--suggesting, according to iParadigms, plagiarism, collusion, or the use of recycled or purchased documents.

The Keystone Initiative for Network-Based Education and Research (KINBER) is embarking on a statewide initiative to increase delivery of broadband throughout Pennsylvania. Known as the Pennsylvania Research and Education Network (PennREN), the project has attracted about $130 million in combined federal and private funding. KINBER is a coalition of Pennsylvania colleges and universities, research and healthcare organizations, and economic development entities.

After a five-year delay, Hillsborough Community College in the Tampa Bay, FL area will be introducing its first multifunctional identification card. The college will be using Heartland Payment Systems' Campus OneCard to launch the "Hawk Card" to provide the campus community with a cashless mechanism for accessing services on and off campus.
