  • Revised Organic Chemistry Text to Be Free Online via OpenStax

    Cornell professor emeritus John McMurry’s 10th edition of his bestselling textbook Organic Chemistry will be published by Rice University’s OpenStax open educational resource program next year, according to information released by the university. The textbook, which could normally cost students hundreds of dollars, according to OpenStax, will be available to students for free online, thanks to its alliance with original publisher Cengage Learning.

    In a recent survey, nearly all higher education chief online officers expected online learning of some kind to be a part of the typical student experience within the next three years. While survey respondents did not necessarily agree on how much online would become the norm, it's clear that hybrid models are favored to dominate instruction by 2025.

  • Arizona Community College Readies New Science Complex

    Construction is complete on a $13.6-million Science Complex at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Ariz., according to a recent press release. The complex includes the total renovation of two existing buildings and new construction of a 19,000-square-foot Physical and Life Science Building.
