Stanford Libraries is leading the shift to a "linked data" metadata environment. MoreCaptioning in video, while still not the norm, is on the rise. While just 34 percent of respondents to a 2017 survey on the topic said they caption all of their videos, that grew to 36 percent in 2018 — even as the share of organizations that are publishing more than 500 hours of video content annually is growing (up from 17 percent last year to 29 percent this year). These responses surfaced during a survey on the "State of Captioning," produced by 3PlayMedia. MoreJefferson College is revamping its administrative reporting with software from Millennium Computer Systems. The institution is using the company's FAST Enterprise Reporting Suite across finance, human resources and student reporting. MoreStarting this fall, Google's IT Support Professional Certificate will be available through more than 25 community colleges in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Texas, California and New York. The company's charitable arm, Google.org, is funding workforce development nonprofit J.F.F. to help community colleges integrate the certificate into their IT education programs. MoreA new Connected Learning Summit, taking place Aug. 1-3 at the MIT Media Lab, is focused on "harnessing emerging technology to expand access to participatory, playful, and creative learning." The event will bring together researchers, educators, developers and others interested in digital citizenship, equity and access, virtual reality, digital media and more. MoreSenate bill 2986, "Correctly Recognizing Educational Achievements to Empower Graduates Act," was re-introduced in early June. The bill would encourage states to establish or expand reverse transfer programs, initiatives that award associate degrees to individuals who have transferred to a four-year college from a community college without first earning an associate degree.
