Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University's CyLab Security and Privacy Institute have developed a new tool for analyzing network traffic and identifying cyber attacks. Students, faculty and staff at Fairfield University in Connecticut now can connect to campus resources â such as student services, course information, learning management systems and more â from any device, in an online marketplace format. The Association of American College and Universities (AAC&U) has launched a resource hub intended to be a repository for templates, campus examples, webinars and online discussions that come out of institutions participating in the organization's Liberal Education and America's Promise (LEAP) initiative. The United States Department of Education (ED) has formally kicked off a new competition designed to encourage the development of virtual and augmented reality concepts for education. Babson College has teamed with edX to launch a new series of six online courses, Business Principles and Entrepreneurial Thought. In honor of College Application Month, a number of colleges and universities are posting video tours of their campuses via Snapchat throughout November. Under a new proof-of-concept program, schools, districts and community colleges will be able to try out Internet2's identity management service, InCommon Federated Identity Management. The majority of students use video captions and video transcripts to help themselves improve focus, retain information, engage with material and improve comprehension, according to a new study from Oregon State University. However, many institutions do not offer captions or video transcripts despite a legal obligation to do so. The University of California, Los Angeles will now provide individualized online career coaching to all of its alumni as well as all UCLA Extension students and alumni, thanks to a joint effort out of UCLA Extension, UCLA Alumni Affairs and the UCLA Career Center. A "boutique" search company has developed a free online resource that lets users search for university and college videos that have been posted to YouTube and then clip and share segments of those videos with students and colleagues. Barnes & Noble Education has released a new platform designed to make it easy for faculty to find and use open educational resources.
