George Brown College Adds 3D Projectors to BIM Lab

George Brown College, located in Toronto, Ontario, has upgraded its Building Information Modeling (BIM) Lab in the Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies (CCET) with a new set of stereoscopic projectors from Christie Digital. The projectors are part of a custom display solution that enables engineers to view digital 3D models created in the lab.

The institution's new Mirage WU7K-M projectors come with 6,300 ANSI lumens, 1,920 x 1,200 (WUXGA) resolution and 10,000:1 contrast ratio. The 3D DLP models include Christie Twist technology, which enables users to manipulate warping and blending of images to suit different spaces.

The BIM lab, designed to teach students about operational processes, design and construction, opened last fall.

"After detailed benchmarking, several meetings and seeing firsthand the Christie CAVE installed at Pennsylvania State University, we knew that a BIM lab was the way of the future," said Clint Kissoon, chair of CCET’s School of Architectural Studies and the Angelo Del Zotto Construction Management, in a written statement. "The lab will advance skills today and in the future and fill a skills gap in the construction industry."
