Procera SmartCampus 2.0 Gains User Awareness Across Devices

Procera Networks has released a new version of its intelligent policy enforcement (IPE) solution, PacketLogic SmartCampus 2.0. With version 2.0, SmartCampus gains the ability to correlate users and devices, which helps with implementing tiered service levels and aggregating usage across devices, expediting responses to DMCA takedown notices, and integrating with threat management systems (TMS).

The SmartCampus suite includes several PacketLogic Real-Time Enforcement (PRE) devices, a statistics server, and the education edition of PacketLogic Subscriber Manager (PSM) software. It integrates with network management and operation systems for user awareness and provides traffic classification, traffic management, statistics analytics, and end-user provisioning to help network administrators comply with fair use and Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) regulations, as well as Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown notices. SmartCampus APIs also enable integration with any third-party system.

Two universities that have already implemented SmartCampus are Miami University and University of Dayton. Miami University integrated SmartCampus with its third-party network access control system to provide more bandwidth for its power users. University of Dayton implemented SmartCampus 2.0 for its user awareness capabilities so it could enforce a per-user data usage quota across devices.

"We are already looking toward additional service definitions that we could offer to further mitigate bandwidth costs," said Chris Bernard, director of network engineering and telecommunications at Miami University, in a prepared statement. "Based on our experience rolling out SmartCampus, we are confident that Procera can integrate policy enforcement with any of our other systems."

PacketLogic SmartCampus 2.0 is available now. Further information can be found on the Procera Networks site.
