Cameroon University Rolls Out WiFi Network Across 11 Campuses

The University of Douala, located in Cameroon, will soon be offering full wireless access to all students, faculty, and staff across its eleven campuses. The deployment makes U Douala the first institution in the West African nation to provide full wireless internet access to its entire campus community.

The 50,000-student institution last week signed an agreement with wireless provider YooMee to deploy the university-wide WiFi network, according to a statement from YooMee. With the new system, students will be able to register online for classes, communicate with instructors, and access university content resources.

The new partnership underscores the university's initiative to overhaul its telecommunications infrastructure and provide its students and faculty with access to the global digital community. "This partnership is fully in line with the new policy that we are now implementing concerning the adoption of a multitude of technologies from information and communication technologies," explained Professor Dieudonné Oyono, rector at the University of Douala, in the prepared statement. "This step is important to our efforts to place our institute at the forefront of those adopting digital technology in Cameroon."
