ShareStream Integrates Video with Desire2Learn's Learning Environment

ShareStream recently unveiled a new version of its video extension for teaching and learning that integrates with Desire2Learn's learning management system (LMS), Learning Environment.

According to ShareStream, the latest version allows users to:

  • Upload and transcode audio and video content into Learning Environment;
  • Tag audio and video with relevant metadata;
  • Submit video assignments and share user generated content;
  • Search and browse course media collections; and
  • Deliver content through secure streaming-media services.

Integration points between ShareStream and Desire2Learn are intended to simplify the end user experience and include Pick-n-Play, a graphical user interface (GUI) available directly from within Desire2Learn's Learning Environment system that lets users upload, browse, search, tag, and play media. Other features of Pick-n-Play include ShareStream Media Dropbox, as well as a personal media gallery and video repository.

Also included is ShareStream's Media Manager administrative video content management system (CMS). The tool provides collection management, metadata and cataloging, digital rights management (DRM), user management tools, various publishing and syndication tools, as well as analytics and reporting.

"The use of online media for learning and collaboration is at an inflection point," said David Weinstein, ShareStream CEO, in a prepared statement. "ShareStream's integration with the Desire2Learn Learning Environment allows Desire2Learn and ShareStream to better serve our mutual clients who seek to capitalize on the educational potential of online media."

According to an announcement about the upgrade, schools can leverage the new ShareStream video extension through the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model--including video hosting, off-site storage, and streaming-media services--or as an on-premises solution, installed in the campus data center or other locally managed environment.
