McGraw-Hill Releases New Version of Adaptive Learning Tool
McGraw-Hill Education has debuted a new release of its adaptive learning software McGraw-Hill LearnSmart. The new version is designed to be used with any textbook as well as open source materials used in a course where the software is offered.
LearnSmart is designed to help students focus their attention on the areas where they need it most. The program leads students through assessments, which measure their comprehension and skill level in the course material, then guides them along a "study path," targeting new information they need to learn or areas where they're struggling.
The release features a new structure, which is organized by course learning objectives as opposed to the textbook objectives. This change means that instructors can use the software with any textbook or open source materials they choose for the course.
"By providing more students with access to LearnSmart," said Brian Kibby, president of McGraw-Hill Higher Education, in a company statement released last week, "we expect to see a greater number of students studying more efficiently and effectively, mastering their coursework and achieving stronger results in their classes."
The company launched LearnSmart Advantage—an adaptive learning tool for higher education that includes SmartBook, an adaptive e-book—earlier this year.
LearnSmart is available now at a starting price of $24.99. The program can be accessed on most computers and iOS devices. The company plans to release an Android version later this year.
