City Year, College Week Live Team up on College Admissions, AmeriCorps Recruits

City Year and College Week Live (CWL) have partnered in an effort to help guide more students through college admissions.

College Week Live provides a Web site for prospective students to learn about colleges and universities. City Year connects its AmeriCorps members with at-risk students for direct support.

As a result of the collaboration the organizations will "meet and engage prospective AmeriCorps members through online events and chat sessions," according to a news release. "At the same time, City Year will introduce high school students to CWL, as a means to help them navigate the college admissions process. Students can visit CWL to live chat with admissions counselors from more than 250 colleges and universities and gain advice from education professionals about achieving their college dreams."

"This partnership allows City Year to engage with college-bound students in a space where they and their parents are able to access information at their convenience," said Melanie Brennand Mueller, vice president of recruitment & admissions at City Year, in a prepared statement. "CWL helps level the playing field for students who can't afford to visit campus in-person, who may be the first in their family to attend college and who may be interested in other opportunities as well. We're excited to partner with CWL to support students' college journeys, and believe that a year of service with City Year creates more engaged and active young citizens who will maximize their time in college, having dedicated a year to helping solve one of this country's most pressing issues — education."
