Chalkup 2.0 Adds iOS Tools for Teachers, Android Version to Follow

Chalkup on iOS

An application that lays additional class collaboration functionality on top of Google Apps for Education has added mobility features to its iOS version and hinted at an Android edition.

Chalkup, whose product goes by the same name, made the announcement in a blog entry on its site recently.

For instructors, Chalkup provides discussion, assignment and grading capabilities. It's intended to help students manage their time better by providing estimated workload counts and tracking information for their school "tasks." Google Apps schools gain single-sign-on access to Chalkup.

New features in Chalkup version 2.0 include:

  • The ability for an instructor to create assignments and do grading from a mobile device;
  • The new release lets teachers grade with their rubrics by tapping and assign basic values to all assignments;
  • Students will be able to create and submit assignments via mobile device, including the ability to submit work by taking a picture of it;
  • Students will be able to chat with classmates and create small groups;
  • Instructors will be able to host live office hours with the class; and
  • Users may receive push notifications to notify them about pending school work.

In the blog CEO Justin Chando also put Android users on notice: "Rejoice — your app is coming later this summer."
