U California Grants A-G Approval for 30 Edmentum Courses

The University of California (UC) has given a-g approval for an additional 30 online and blended learning courses offered by Edmentum.

UC's a-g approval is designed "to ensure that students attain a body of general knowledge that will provide breadth and perspective to new, more advanced study," according to a news release. "Courses meeting a-g approval are required to be academically challenging, involving substantial reading, writing and problems and laboratory work (as appropriate). Courses must also show serious attention to analytical thinking, factual content and developing students' oral and listening skills."

The newest approvals, for semester-length courses, brings the company's total number of a-g approved courses to more than 130 core, world language, career and technical education and elective classes.

"We are proud of our rich history of creating online curriculum built to state standards," said Rob Rueckl, Edmentum's chief executive officer, in a prepared statement. "This approval further emphasizes our commitment to being the industry leader in California for online instruction and allows us to more meaningfully partner with districts across the state to achieve their unique educational goals."
