LG Unveils OLED displays

LG Electronics has introduced new dual-view flat and curved displays that use the same OLED (organic light-emitting diode) technology already available in some of its television sets.

OLED technology allows for digital displays that are thinner, lighter, more efficient and better-performing than any current display or television technology. Each pixel can be shut off, for an absolute black, meaning an improved contrast ratio and more vibrant colors.

Two different models of the dual-view OLED display will be available for the classroom by July. Both offer the option of projecting two different images on each side of the display and swapping or mirroring content with the use of a remote control. Each screen offers 4K ultra-high definition resolution (3,840 x 2,160) with more than 8 million pixels. System-on-a-chip technology and a large internal memory capacity enables UHD-synced playback without the need for a PC or media player. Each unit is less than half an inch wide.

The flat OLED display is 55 inches in diameter and can either be suspended from a ceiling, mounted on a wall or installed on a floor stand. The curved tiling OLED display uses very thin tiles to form customizable displays that can link two, three or four tiles together. The curved tiling OLED display is larger, at 65 inches in diameter.

"Our new commercial OLED displays feature the unparalleled picture quality of LG's consumer OLED TVs," said Clark Brown vice president of digital signage with LG Electronics USA. "Schools will be able to create a completely immersive and more engaging environment."
