Cisco Makes Moves To Acquire Tandberg

Just a few years ago, videoconferencing and TelePresence were more great concepts than they were actual installed systems. Cisco's entry into that market was one of the factors that legitimized the product category, and companies already established in the market have enjoyed increased sales ever since.

One of those companies is Tandberg, and Cisco has taken notice. The two companies this month announced that Cisco will acquire Tandberg, with the acquisition expected to close during the first half of calendar year 2010.

Tandberg has headquarters in New York and in Oslo, has been in video since 1989, and has systems installed in 90 countries. Tandberg CEO Fredrik Halvorsen will lead the new TelePresence Technology Group, reporting to Marthin DeBeer, senior vice president of Cisco's Emerging Technologies Group.
