Barco 3D Projector Targets Scientific Research, Virtual Design

Barco is shipping a new high-light-output, three-chip DLP projector designed with 3D for high-resolution, multi-channel setups, such as domes and immersive systems.

The Galaxy NW-7, with 7,000 lumens of brightness, sports a resolution of WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) and is especially suited to applications in scientific research and virtual design. The Galaxy NW-7 also features smearing reduction technology to handle clear projection of fast-moving objects, such as simulated fast-jet or helicopter training. Barco said these sorts of applications typically require more than one projector to achieve these capabilities. This projector uses a three-chip DLP design.

Barco said the Xenon lamp technology maintains color saturation and color stability over time. It also said the unit is designed for brightness equalization, warping, and uses improved liquid cooling and filterless design for longer life. The Galaxy NW-7 supports electronic and optical blending for a composite image free from disturbances and blurry overlap zones.

Along with the simulation, research, and design applications, another targeted application significant to education is collaboration, enabled when the projector is used with the Barco's XDS Control Center. Using a Windows-based desktop, users can control various sources, exchange data and participate in video conferencing with a mouse and keyboard.
