3 Universities Organize with Hyland Document Management

Three university programs have acquired an application from Hyland Software to manage documents and streamline workflow. Georgetown University in Washington, DC, Davidson College in North Carolina, and the University of Virginia Investment Management Co. in Charlottesville have all recently purchased Hyland's OnBase version 9.2.

OnBase integrates with existing applications, such as the student information system, to automate paper-based processes. Although OnBase is offered in a software-as-a-service model, all three institutions have purchased a version that they'll host on their own servers.

Georgetown's MBA program is driving deployment at that school, specifically to improve its international student admissions. There, according to a Hyland spokeswoman, users will use OnBase to capture, manage, and store files so advisors can review digital documents wherever they happen to be working and then route completed forms back to admissions staff for further processing.

According to Ian Levine, director of higher education solutions for Hyland, document management is a category of software that has begun to expand outside of departmental usage. "It's part of how institutions are increasing efficiency and reducing costs across the entire campus, in areas as diverse as admissions, development and the registrar's office," he said.
