Planar has unveiled a new series of entry level digital signage displays for use in venues with varying degrees of ambient light.

The new PS-series of displays consists of six units: three back-lit LCD models and three edge-lit LED models, with 1,920 x 1,080 (1080p) resolutions and ambient light sensors that enable automatic brightness adjustments.

The back-lit models include the PS4200, a 42-inch display with a brightness of 500 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 1,500:1; the PS4200TL, a 42-inch touchscreen display with a brightness of 500 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 1,500:1; and the PS6500, a 65-inch display with a brightness of 500 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 5,000:1.

Edge-lit LED models include the PS4250, a 42-inch display; the PS4650, a 46-inch display; and the PS5550, a 55-inch display. The PS4250 and the PS4650 have a brightness of 500 cd/m², while the PS5550 has a brightness of 400 cd/m². The PS4250, the PS4650, and the PS5550 offer a contrast ratio of 4,000:1.

All PS-series displays support RS-232 control and video wall configurations up to 10 x 10.

Additional features include:

  • A metal enclosure;
  • A 16:9 aspect ratio;
  • A color gamut of 72 percent NTSC; and
  • A 178 degree viewing angle.

The PS4250 and the PS4650 are capable of displaying way-finding, menu, game, and other public information in both landscape and portrait orientations. Other displays in the series support landscape orientations only.

HDMI, DVI, analog RGB/component (mini D-sub 15-pin), component, S-video, and composite video inputs are standard on all models in the series.  AV outputs and control ports include stereo RCA jacks and RS-232.

PS series displays are covered by a three-year warranty and a two-day advance replacement service.

The PS4200 currently ships for $849, and the PS5550 currently ships for $2,799. Other displays in the series will be available this month. Prices include $4,799 for PS6500, $1,549 for the PS4650, $1,199 for the PS4250, and $1,699 for the PS4200TL.
