JVC Launches Camera Capable of Recording in Total Darkness


Featuring IR LED technology, JVC's TK-T8101WPRU bullet camera is designed to capture images in total darkness.

JVC has released the TK-T8101WPRU, a new analog bullet camera with integrated IR LED technology for use in various lighting situations, including complete darkness.

Part of JVC's LoLux security camera line, the TK-T8101WPRU features 10-bit signal processing, a high resolution IT CCD, and a 3.3-12 millimeter variable focal lens. The camera's low light sensitivity is "0.05 lux for color, 0.015 for black-and-white, and 0 lux with active IR LED," according to information released by the company.

Other features of the camera include:

  • Automatic high light compensation for use in extreme white light;
  • Backlight compensation;
  • 600 TV lines of resolution;
  • A 52 dB signal-to-noise ratio;
  • A waterproof and dustproof die-cast aluminum housing with tempered glass and sunshade;
  • The ability to operate in temperatures between 14 and 122 degrees farenheit;
  • Four areas of motion detection;
  • Eight zones of privacy masking; and
  • Digital noise reduction.

“When paired with an infrared camera, LED technology can produce security video in total darkness," said Ian Scott, vice president, JVC Security Group. "Our new TK-T8101WPRU features 28 built-in LEDs, which allow for an IR distance of 115 feet, so there is no costly additional lighting needed.”

The TK-T8101WPRU will begin shipping in March with a suggested list price of $350. More information is available at pro.jvc.com.
