Fiber Optic Network Powers A/V Production at Mississippi State

Mississippi State University (MSU) Television Center has merged its A/V production operations to a single control facility. The new production center, located at the school's Davis Wade Stadium, will supply video feeds to big screens for MSU home football, basketball, and baseball games. MSU plans to extend the services to its other campus sports in the near future.

Feeding the HD signals to the control room is a new fiber optic network from Telecast Fiber Systems, a Belden brand, according to a statement released this week by the company. TelePort 3G multi-channel HD/SDI transport systems multiplex feeds signals from the field or court onto two strands of single-mode fiber while Telecast Adder II audio multiplexers deliver audio and intercom feeds.

MSU has a CopperHead camera-mounted transceiver that transmits two-way camera signals from three Panasonic AK-HC3500 HD studio cameras. The transceiver can also be added to a fourth camera. Telecast SHED/HDX adapters, which connect on-location cameras with the control room's CCU, enable power and control for remote cameras. Telecast Rattler mini HD/SDI transmitters/receivers send digital video links over fiber.

More information about Telecast Fiber Systems is available at the company's Web site.
