Upper Iowa U To Offer Flexible Distance Learning Courses

From working and adult students to veterans and active duty military, a diversity of students at Upper Iowa University (UIU) will have the opportunity to take advantage of flexible, online courses, independent study, and degree programs.

In a partnership with higher education course provider StraighterLine, UIU students will be able to access and complete online, self-paced or professor-led accredited courses at their own pace.

Entry-level college courses in a variety of subject areas, including science, the humanities, English, math, business, college preparation, and foreign language will be available for students at low cost through StraighterLine's subscription pricing plans. Students can also take advantage of alternative options such as credit-by-examination (CBE) that allow students to earn college credit based on test scores, as well as through prior learning assessments, in which students earn credit for accumulated knowledge and life experience.

"For more than 150 years, Upper Iowa University has had an outstanding history of meeting the educational needs of students through innovation, quality, and service," said UIU President William R. Duffy II, in a prepared statement. "We are focused on creating flexible education that helps change students' lives forever, whether they are pursuing their degree on campus, through a distance education program, or in their community at one of our centers. As the largest, private, independent, not-for-profit educational institution in Iowa, we have the expertise to provide the same high-quality excellent academic programs to all our students. We are pleased to partner with StraighterLine in developing another effective tool for students to increase access to affordable higher education."

Upper Iowa University, located in northeast Iowa, offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as leadership development programs, to approximately 900 students enrolled at its Fayette campus and approximately 6,200 students worldwide through its distance education programs that include 15 centers in the United States, an online program, an independent study program, and centers in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.
