Scalable Launches Ed Versions of Network Simulation Platforms

has launched educational (EDU) versions of its latest QualNet and EXata network
simulation programs. The EDU versions are intended for graduate students and
professors conducting advanced research and education in network architecture
and protocol design.
According to the company,
QualNet simulates
network and protocol behavior faster than real-time behavior so researchers can
quickly execute multiple scenarios, and
EXata provides a
real-time, system-in-the-loop emulation interface, so researchers can integrate
live hardware and applications with virtual network models for the purpose of
conducting advanced operational analysis. The EDU versions of these two products
include all of the functionality available in the commercial versions.
Key features of QualNet and EXata EDU include:
- Graphical user interface for model building;
- Statistical database and reporting system for network scenario analysis;
- Support for virtual network models of up to 50 nodes;
- EXata EDU support for two operational host system-in-the-loop
connections;
- Developer, Wireless Model and Multimedia and Enterprise libraries;
- Corresponding source code for libraries; and
- Free access to the online Scalable Community Forum.
"We encourage university students, faculty, researchers and scientists to
utilize the EDU versions of our commercial tools to advance the theory and
technology of network simulation to solve real-world problems," said Rajive
Bagrodia, founder and CTO of Scalable, in a prepared statement.
Single-seat, one-year licenses of QualNet and EXata EDU are available to
students and university projects engaged in not-for-profit academic research or
study. Professors can also receive a 30-seat license for classroom teaching
purposes. QualNet EDU licenses are available for free in the United States,
while "licenses for EXata in the U.S. and both products internationally are
available for a nominal fee," according to the company.
