University System of Georgia Works to Close Skills Gap with Digital Portfolios

The fifth largest university system in the country has implemented a new digital portfolio platform in an effort to connect its more than 300,000 students and millions of alumni to career opportunities. The University System of Georgia (USG), which includes 29 public institutions, has selected a competency-based platform from Portfolium to match its students and alumni to jobs and internships.

Portfolium enables students to organize and personalize their own interactive collection of projects, work samples, skills and achievements into a shareable e-portfolio. Additionally, administrators and faculty are given tools to document learning and job-placement outcomes.

Georgia State University (GSU), a research institution within USG, has already launched its digital portfolio platform for its 54,000 students and 175,000 alumni.

Timothy Renick, vice provost and vice president for enrollment management and student success at GSU, said in a statement that GSU initially struggled to scale effective career preparation for its student body. "Now, we're using Portfolium to help. We're employing analytics to link students to careers that match their individual abilities and Portfolium as a platform for students to document their career readiness at scale,” Renick said.

More than 150 school systems, universities and colleges, including the California State University system, Florida International University and Tarleton State University, utilize Portfolium as an all-in-one e-portfolio solution. Portfolium serves more than 2.5 million students and alumni to date.

Further information about the platform is available on the Portfolium site.
