Case Western Opens IoT Lab
Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) has opened up a new institute dedicated to developing Internet of Things (IoT) technology. With help from an IoT solutions provider, the institute will open up opportunities for students at the Case School of Engineering.
CWRU will work with Intwine Connect to build the Institute for Smart, Secure and Connected Systems (ISSACS). The lab will help unify a number of current initiatives and enable the CWRU to leverage its work in “sensors and electronics, networks and communications, systems and controls, data science and analytics, and other related technology fields” according to the Case School of Engineering. In addition, the lab will give engineering students the opportunity to solve real-world IoT challenges and gain IoT engineering skills.
CWRU and Intwine Connect first connected in 2014, when the latter started leasing lab space at CWRU through its Technology Transfer Office (TTO) “to develop hardware, software, data analytics and other services enabling internet-connected ‘smart’ devices needed for more efficient and productive business and buildings,” according to a news release. Intwine also receives funding from Case Technology Ventures, the university’s venture capital fund, which approved a $217,500 “phase-in investment” in June.
