U Washington Tacoma Teams Up with Infoblox on Security Research

University of Washington Tacoma announced the partnership with Infoblox, a network security company based in San Jose, CA, to do research on the use of analytics and machine learning to fight cybersecurity problems.

Not quite a year ago, Infoblox acquired threat intelligence firm IID, which is situated less than a mile from the campus. The former CEO of IID, Lars Harvey, is a member of advisory board for the university's Institute of Technology. In February 2016, the two companies announced the acquisition, which expanded Infoblox's product line with the addition of IID's ActiveTrust, a suite of applications for securing and protecting a company's Internet presence from "brand abuse and data loss."

Under the new agreement, the university will work with Infoblox on research projects in cybersecurity, development of security products and placing students into internships.

"The Infoblox partnership is providing the [university] with real-world examples of security challenges and DNS data that our professors and students can use to develop new, innovative analytics and methodologies to address cybercrime, a growing global threat," said Anderson Nascimento, a professor of computer science, in a prepared statement. "This is an exciting opportunity that brings together leaders from both academia and the private sector to solve security issues that affect all of us."
