University of Cambridge Joins EdX

The University of Cambridge is partnering with edX to launch a new MicroMasters program in Writing for Performance and Entertainment Industries — the university's first offering on the online learning platform. Aimed at professional dramatists, writers and others involved in creative industries, the program comes out of Cambridge's Institute of Continuing Education (ICE).

"This collaboration is a critical step to further scale the University's strategy for online education, whilst at the same time complementing the University's traditional offer," said Graham Virgo, professor and senior pro-vice chancellor for education at Cambridge, in a statement. "We look forward to growing our presence on the edX platform and sharing Cambridge expertise to learners of all ages and backgrounds across the world."

The program is designed to hone learners' skills and provide opportunities to engage with the film, TV and digital entertainment industries, according to a news announcement. Those who complete the program can apply for admission to ICE's Masters of Studies in Writing for Performance; if accepted, they can receive a maximum of 30 credits toward the degree.

The university plans to add more edX programs soon, including a number of Professional Certificate programs.
