Thai University Outfits New Ed Facility for Multipurpose Use

Naresuan University

A university in Thailand recently finished construction on a 34,000-square-foot educational facility and outfitted it with AV gear from a number of Harman companies. The new multipurpose education building at Naresuan University in Tha Pho is designed to function as a single hall with a capacity of 4,000 or to be split into two smaller rooms.

Integrator Mahajak deployed JBL VTX A8 line-array loudspeakers to provide audio during large events; JBL VTX B18 and VTX G28 subwoofers to provide low-end support; and JBL AE Series compact loudspeakers for additional audio reinforcement at the sides and rear of the venue.

The installation runs Crown I-Tech HD Series amplifiers, a Soundcraft Si Performer 3 for automated sound mixing and BSS BLU-800 signal processors to distribute audio throughout the building via an audio network.

When the space is split into two separate rooms, additional sound is provided by JBL PRX800 Series portable loudspeakers, a secondary audio system controlled through a Soundcraft Si Impact digital mixing console.

For visual presentations, Mahajak installed three 300-inch motorized screens with AMX audio and video encoders and decoders. An AMX touch panel provides control and switching of video sources.

"Achieving an effective AV design for a multipurpose venue is always a challenge, but using the versatile solutions offered by Harman, Naresuan University has created an exceptional collaborative space for students and visitors alike," said Ramesh Jayaraman, a vice president and general manager for Harman APAC, in a press release.

Why Universities Are Ransomware's Easy Target: Lessons from the 23% Surge

Academic environments face heightened risk because their collaboration-driven environments are inherently open, making them more susceptible to attack, while the high-value research data they hold makes them an especially attractive target. The question is not if this data will be targeted, but whether universities can defend it swiftly enough against increasingly AI-powered threats.
