Microsoft to Roll Out Copilot Enhancements for Teams

Microsoft is updating how users interact directly with Copilot in Microsoft Teams with a handful of new and optimized features.

Set to be released over the next few months, key enhancements will be coming to Copilot in Teams built around customer feedback. First is an update to Copilots in meetings that will now display improved insights, like highlighted action items and timelines, in the same view pane as the transcript and Copilot-created meeting summary.

The company's Intelligence call recap, which is already available in Teams video meetings, will extend to VoIP and Public Switched Telephone Network calls for Teams Premium customers. This feature will bring Copilot insights, recaps, summaries, and recommended action items to more types of calls through the service. The new capability is planned for release in June.

Microsoft Teams messages will receive an upgrade this April, with new tools to help in rewriting and composing chat messages to customize them with a range of different tones and styles. "For example, Copilot can adjust your message to add a call to action, or even to make you sound like a pirate," wrote Microsoft. "Soon, you will also be able to generate a new message with a prompt by typing just a few words in Teams chat."

Microsoft is also bringing tweaks to Teams that aim to improve voice and video meetings. First, the company announced that its IntelliFrame feature, which enhances video feeds of in-room participants using Cloud AI to provide a clear view of all meeting participants, will be activated by default for video calls. Audio will also get a boost with a preview in April of its speaker recognition tool for Teams Rooms, which will enhance the recording capabilities of those talking during a meeting for improved meeting transcripts and insights.

Finally, Microsoft will be improving IT management of Teams with new capabilities in Windows Autopilot, which will decrease the time it takes to set up Teams Rooms and automatically apply the latest Microsoft Teams updates at initial device setup. These new capabilities will be hitting preview later this week.

Microsoft's vision for Copilot is to democratize access to generative AI to cut out time-wasting facets of the day-to-day workload. "Our vision with Copilot is to bring the power of generative AI to everyone. We are committed to continue to improve the Copilot experience in Teams to help everyone be more creative and productive," the company said.
