All in the Palm of Your Hand
Like something out of Star Trek, handhelds and PDAs have morphed into multifunctional devices, much like the new Cingular Quad-Band BlackBerry 7100g, manufactured and developed by Research in Motion (RIM), a designer, manufacturer, and marketer of wireless solutions. The BlackBerry 7100g has the look and feel of a cell phone, but allows the user to access e-mail, a browser, and other data capabilities. With a large, high-resolution color LCD display, users will be impressed by RIM’s SureType keyboard technology. Available for as low as $249 (with applicable rebates and a two-year contract). www.blackberry.com and www.cingular.com.

FlipTop Media Center
The new Crestron QM-FTMC-SC provides a stylish, flush-mount tabletop interface and control solution as the front end for the MediaManager AV presentation system. Composite and S-Video inputs are provided inside the FlipTop compartment, along with corresponding stereo audio inputs, to accept connections from portable AV devices. High-resolution computer sources may also be connected using the easy pullout RGB/audio cable assembly (included), which attaches to inputs hidden beneath the table surface and stows neatly within the FlipTop compartment when not in use. Excess cable simply drops out of sight below the box, through grommeted holes provided in the bottom plate. The QM-FTMC-SC retails for $1,425. www.crestron.com.

The Fight Against Spam
The release of Roaring Penguin’s CanIT-Pro 3.0 software will make it even easier for individuals to manage their spam filtering. With CanIT-Pro 3.0’s new user-friendly interface, users can now opt in to spam filtering and manage details of their personal filters. Refined in the 3.0 versions is Greylisting, CanIt-Pro’s measure against spam. It now eliminates a portion of spam from the mail stream even before it reaches the mail server, and administrators and users can identify what mail should and shouldn’t be filtered. CanIT-Pro 3.0 retails for $1,500 to $25,000, based on number of users protected. www.roaringpenguin.com.

Hard Drive Protection
Keep your campus hard drives safe with Centurion Technologies’ drive-and-data protection hardware and software, CompuGuard CornerStone, recently released by the company. With CornerStone installed, users are able to safely experiment without harming their computers, alleviating time needed to debug. After a computer is rebooted, it is restored back to its original configuration settings established during installation. Price is based on quantity. www.centuriontech.com.

Speed of Light
The mobility of NEC’s latest LT245 projector makes it flexible and easy for instructors to display information in the classroom or in meetings. The high-speed, wireless communication capability securely transmits information from a computer to the projector, or data can be broadcast from one computer to several LT245 projectors—a capability especially convenient for off-site meetings or instruction. All for $2,495. www.necvisualsystems.com.

Secured Updates
The tablet PC provider Motion Computing has launched M1400TC, a new tablet client for wireless network and mobile client server-based environments. The new tablet client allows campuses to provide software applications and updates to their users while protecting sensitive information stored on secure network servers. Priced from $1,649. www.motioncomputing.com.

Fast-Focusing Digital Camera
Want to take pictures of your faculty and staff? How about campus events? Konica Minolta has introduced a new ergonomic-like, 5.0-megapixel DiMAGE Z20 digital camera perfect for first-time digital photographers and those upgrading from an older digital camera. Best of all, the Rapid AF (autofocus) boosts the focusing time for both wide-angle and telephoto positions so that users can capture unexpected shots. Street price: $329. www.kmpi.konicaminolta.us.
