Quantum Nabs $1 Million Grant for AI Tutoring Software

The U.S. Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences (IES) has granted Quantum Simulations, developers of artificial intelligence tutoring software, a $1 million grant. The grant will go to further developing Quantum's tutoring modules in chemistry for high school and college-level students.

"As the former Director of the Office of Educational Technology at the U.S. Department of Education, the cognitive learning approach of the Quantum Tutors is by far one of the most advanced and effective educational tools I've seen for self-directed tutoring, homework help, and test preparation," said Susan Patrick, president and CEO of the North American Council for Online Learning, in a prepared statement.

The tutoring software is designed for students to get help when an instructor is not available. According to Quantum, after accessing the tutor modules online, students can ask questions, receive explanations, request hints and review self-assessment reports.

The tutoring module also provides analysis reports of student work and class performance. Teachers can use the software to "eliminate the administrative time, human error and fatigue associated with grading homework, test and quizzes by hand," according to Quantum.
