National University of Singapore Deploys Secure Access SSL

The National University of Singapore has deployed Secure Access SSL VPN, a security technology from Juniper Networks. The University will use the security platform to establish an electronic examination portal for online testing.

The security platform will be a part of the university's Integrated Virtual Learning Environment, designed to deliver online multimedia as a part of the examination process, and to keep students from accessing unauthorized online resources outside the examination scope, according to Juniper.

The SSL VPN platform is designed for NUS to set up secure desktop environments without prior installation to any personal computer. According to Juniper, the program "authenticates each user's identity and verifies the health of the endpoint device before network access is grant, enforcing access to specific resources at a per-user level."

NUS is a multi-campus university with an enrollment 22,000 undergraduate students and 9,000 graduate students globally.

Why Universities Are Ransomware's Easy Target: Lessons from the 23% Surge

Academic environments face heightened risk because their collaboration-driven environments are inherently open, making them more susceptible to attack, while the high-value research data they hold makes them an especially attractive target. The question is not if this data will be targeted, but whether universities can defend it swiftly enough against increasingly AI-powered threats.
