The
University of Houston announced that it would be installing
AT&T U-verse services into student housing on a college campus. The IP-based TV and broadband Internet services will be included in all 700 one- and two-bedroom apartments of a 547,000-square-foot residence hall under construction for graduate and professional students.
The Calhoun Lofts, next to the university's C.T. Bauer College of Business, broke ground in fall 2007 and is scheduled for completion in 2009. Besides housing the building will contain 10,000 square feet of retail space.
"Outfitting an entire facility with AT&T U-verse keeps with the University of Houston's forward thinking on technology and the quality of student life," said Elwyn Lee, VP for Student Affairs. "We chose what best represented our vision for the university."
The AT&T U-verse portfolio of IP-based services currently includes digital video, the ability to record up to four shows simultaneously, AT&T Yahoo High Speed Internet that users can control from any Internet-connected computer or wireless device, a picture-in-picture browse feature, on-screen access to personalized information such as sports and weather, local yellow pages search, Yahoo games, program search and parental controls. The company said that eventually the service will also include voice-over-IP.
The University of Houston System encompasses four universities and two multi-institution teaching centers.
