Apple iMacs Get Processor, Graphics Upgrades

Apple this week upgraded its iMac line of all in one desktop computers. The new models now sport frontside bus speeds of 1,066 MHz across the board. hey also now offer options of processor speeds up to 3.06 GHz and Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS graphics.

In addition to the frontside bus speed boost, all models now support up to 4 GB of 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Two of the base models ship with 2 GB RAM, while the entry-level configuration still ships with 1 GB.

The entry-level 20-inch model offers a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor; 250 GB, 7,200 RPM SATA hard drive; and ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics with 128 MB GDDR3 memory.

The mid-level 20-inch model offers a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor; 320 GB, 7,200 RPM SATA hard drive; and ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics with 256 MB GDDR3 memory.

And the top of the line 24-inch base model offers a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor; 320 GB, 7,200 RPM SATA hard drive; and ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics with 256 MB GDDR3 memory.

Build to order options on the 24-inch model include a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS with 512 MB of memory.

Other features common across the line include:

  • A slot-load 8x SuperDrive with double-layer support (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW);
  • Integrated iSight video camera;
  • AirPort Extreme 802.11n wireless networking;
  • Bluetooth 2.1+EDR;
  • Mini-DVI out;
  • 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet; and
  • Combo analog/optical audio I/O.
