SightSpeed Releases Free MySpace Widget for Video Mail and Chat

SightSpeed has launched SightSpeed Light on MySpace, a free widget that adds integrated video mail, public video posting, and video chat for members of MySpace. The widget was built using MySpace's Developer Platform, introduced in February.

With SightSpeed Light video conversations among MySpace friends can take place in real-time or as threaded posts created by users recording and posting video messages. The threaded conversations start with someone creating and posting a SightSpeed video about any topic. From there, anyone else in that person's MySpace friends group can respond. The program organizes the thread automatically, creating a video conversation, without leaving MySpace.

As with all MySpace Developer Platform applications, SightSpeed Light will be able to access publicly available profile information including a user's friend list, interests, photos, albums, and video, as well as status and mood. The widget will have real estate in five places within MySpace:

  • A MySpace application profile (users can "friend" the apps);
  • Access to embed applications on the user homepage;
  • Access to embed applications on profiles;
  • An application gallery listing; and
  • A canvas page.

"SightSpeed Light is a great example of the way we intended developers to use the MySpace Developer Platform to create innovative and useful tools for our users," said Kyle Brinkman, vice president and general manager of MySpace Developer Platform. "Our goal is to enrich our users' experience through unique and engaging applications, and we look forward to watching the MySpace Developer Platform continue to evolve."
