The Quilt, a coalition of 28 regional network organizations, has added
XO Communications Services to its authorized vendor list. The Quilt represents 200 universities and thousands of other educational institutions across the United States. With this new relationship, Quilt members can purchase XO's high-speed IP transit and network transport services at competitive rates.
The Quilt provides a forum for communication among advanced regional network organizations and others dedicated to advancing research and education in the United States. The Quilt's Commodity Internet Services (CIS) project aggregates the buying power of The Quilt participants to get the best value for Internet services.
"The Quilt seeks vendor partners who are not only able to provide the best value, but are also able to provide a network that is capable of supporting the advanced requirements of our members and the institutions they support," said Hud Croasdale, executive director. "We are pleased to be working with XO Communications whose network is characterized by its flexibility and scalability which are critical for success in the research and education community."
The XO nationwide network connects 75 major metropolitan markets to deliver Ethernet services from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps speeds, IP transit services from DS3 to 10 Gbps speeds, private line services from T-1 to OC-192 speeds and other high capacity transport services at 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps speeds.
