Sony Brightens Fixed-Installation Education Projector Line

Sony recently announced two new models in its VPL line of LCD-based projectors for education. The new models--the VPL-FX41and VPL-FX41L--offer higher light output than other models in the VPL-F series (the FX40/L and FE40/L) and are designed to support networked fixed installations.

The VPL-FX41 offers the same native XGA resolution as the FX40 but boosts the brightness up to 5,200 lumens, compared with 4,000 for the FX40. (The FX41L is identical to the FX41 but does not include a lens.) The new 3LCD projector offers a contrast ratio of 700:1.

Other features of the FX41 and FX41L include:

  • BrightEra technology that's designed to produce brighter images than High Temperature Poly-Silicon LCD-based systems;
  • 12-bit 3D gamma correction circuitry;
  • Network-based control and monitoring, along with reporting capabilities;
  • On the fly switching between up to five computers using the projectors for presentations on a LAN; and
  • Power-operated lenses for remote control of lens shift, zoom, and focus.

Additionally, for the FX41L model, four optional lenses are available.

The two new models--the VPL-FX41and VPL-FX41L--are expected to ship in November. Other VPL projectors are available now. Pricing on the entire VPL lineup will be as follows:

  • VPL-FX41: $6,270
  • VPL-FX41L: $6,000
  • VPL-FE40: $6,000
  • VPL-FE40L: $5,730
  • VPL-FX40: $4,670
  • VPL-FX40L: $4,400

As we noted previously, Sony has also recently expanded its lineup of high-end 4k cinema projectors. Further information about those new models can be found here.
