Heartland Launches SaaS for Career College Management

Heartland Payment Systems has launched a new service that handles financial, admissions, and education management, as well as financial aid payments for career colleges. Heartland Smart Ops, powered by the STAR interbank network, is a web-based, integrated school management system intended to help administrators with financial and reporting responsibilities. Smart Ops also has a student portal feature that allows students to pay for tuition and other school-related expenses, and access their grades, class schedules, school event information, and security alerts online.

Heartland is a payments processor, providing card processing, payroll, check management, and other payments solutions. The company developed the service in partnership with Training Masters, a consulting and training company for postsecondary career schools.

Also integrated into Smart Ops are Heartland's core payments solutions for card processing, online payments, check management, and payroll--as well as its Campus OneCard System. The OneCard is a campus card program that can be used for access and security; attendance tracking; and financial aid and work-study funds disbursement.

"Running a school--and staying compliant with regulations for government funding--is extremely complex," said Barry Welsch, director of campus payments at Heartland. "By automating and streamlining processes, administrators can manage their schools more efficiently and focus on their core missions."
