U Tennessee Taps into 10-Gigabit Network

The University of Tennessee System will be linking to and using a new 10-gigabit IP network core built by AT&T for the state of Tennessee. The system will be expanding its use of NetTN, a custom-built virtual private network begun in 2008, to connect its five campuses statewide.

Besides U Tennessee, partners in the NetTN project include school districts, libraries and local governments, non-profits, and private colleges, among others.

"From increasing capacity for research and scholarly achievement to providing enhanced access to undergraduate and graduate education, AT&T's networking solution is enabling the university to accelerate delivery of our strategic initiatives including educational outreach and preparedness for the global marketplace," said Scott Studham, CIO for the system.

Under the agreement, AT&T will double the bandwidth for Internet connectivity throughout the university system.
