New LCOS Projector

Canon USA has launched the REALiS SX7 Mark II multimedia LCOS projector, featuring SXGA+ (1,400 x 1050) resolution and 4,000 lumens of brightness. A photo image mode enables users to make changes to improve the look and feel of the content being projected; color level and color temperature functions allow for fine-tuning of both the intensity of colors and color temperature, from easy-to-use presets. In addition, the projector’s ambient light function can be used to compensate for lighting conditions (including the type of lighting and light intensity in a room). The REALiS SX7 Mark II supports Adobe RGB and sRGB color spaces, and is compatible with widescreen WXGA resolution computers with no need for image compression or distortion. Suggested list price: $6,999. usa.canon.com.

SRS With Increased Text Input

The new Q6 student response system (SRS) from Qwizdom features a larger LCD screen and a keypad similar to that of a cell phone, allowing students to enter text-based responses to instructor questions. In addition, the device allows students to enter scientific, mathematic, superscript and subscript expressions, along with general punctuation symbols found on a cell phone. A text edit option enables students to correct grammar and punctuation in a sentence or passage. The small, ergonomic, radio-frequency remotes can be operated up to 328 feet away from the instructor. Starting price (for 24-remote set plus one Q5 instructor unit): $2,045. qwizdom.com.

Prepaid Credit Program

Blackboard has introduced Blackboard Pay, a prepaid card program that enables institutions to disburse financial aid credit balances and student payroll to campus ID cards. The program, in partnership with Discover and First Data, provides students and staff immediate access to their funds, eliminating the need to wait for paper check disbursements. Students can use the prepaid card to make purchases at any locations that accept Discover cards, or withdraw cash from ATMs that bear the Pulse, Allpoint, or STAR Network logos. Discover provides the network for Blackboard Pay transactions, while First Data provides the transaction processing and disbursement technology. Cardholder funds are held in FDIC-insured accounts through First Data’s Money Network program. Contact vendor for pricing. blackboard.com/transact.
