Arista Intros Energy-Efficient 10/40 GbE Switch for Clusters, Virtualization

Arista Networks has rolled out its new 10/40 gigabit Ethernet data center switch, the Arista 7050 series. Delivering 1.28 terabits of switching performance at less than 2 watts per 10 GbE interface, the 7050 series is, according to the company, the most power-efficient 10/40 GbE switch on the market. It is optimized for Hadoop Clusters, VMware virtual machine farms, and other broad-ranging enterprise deployments.

The Arista 7050 series is based on the latest Broadcom Trident+ chipset, delivering the highest density with twice the routing scale of some products built around the older Trident chipset while maintaining the same price point.

Other improvements to this series over previous Arista switches include a reduced form factor, a redesigned cooling system, a high-efficiency power supply, and an optional industrial-grade solid-state drive. The first new switch in the series is the Arista 7050S-64, which features dual-core, 1.5 GHz processing and 4 GB of DRAM to provide power for virtualization applications.

Key features of the Arista 7050S-64 include:

  • Dual-core x86 CPU;
  • 4 GB DRAM;
  • Optional 50 GB industrial-grade solid-state disk;
  • 48x1 GbE SFP ports and 4x40 GbE QSFP ports;
  • 1.28 terabits per second performance;
  • 125 watt typical power draw;
  • 1+1 redundant and hot-swappable power;
  • Four N+1 redundant and hot-swappable fans;
  • Front-to-rear or rear-to-front cooling;
  • 1U x 19" x 16" form factor;
  • Advanced provisioning and monitoring; and
  • Arista extensible operating system (EOS).
