NetBeans IDE Adds Support for JDK 7 Developer Preview, HTML5 Editing

Version 7.0 of NetBeans integrated development environment (IDE) is now available. This free, open-source tool supports development of desktop, enterprise, mobile, and Web applications with Java, PHP, JavaScript and Ajax, Groovy and Grails, and C/C++. It's available for Mac OS X, Windows, Solaris, and Linux.

The new version of NetBeans IDE, formally released last week, introduces support for the JDK 7 Developer Preview. It also includes improved support for Oracle WebLogic Server 11g, GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 3.1, and Oracle Database, along with added support for Apache Maven 3 and HTML5.

Key features of NetBeans IDE 7.0 include:

  • Support for JDK 7, including editor enhancements such as code completion and hints, improved visual customizer for GridBayLayout, support for remotely hosted Javadoc, and integration with JUnit 4.8.2;
  • Improved support for CDI, REST services, Java Persistence, and Bean Validation;
  • Support for Apache Maven 3, which is bundled with the IDE;
  • Improved support for Oracle WebLogic Server 11g, including faster deployment, new server runtime node displaying deployed applications and resources, and JavaServer Faces integration with server libraries;
  • Improved support for GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 3.1, including domain restart and log viewer for remote GlassFish Server instances, and ability to enable and disable deployed applications;
  • Oracle Database improvements, such as editing and deployment of stored procedures, simplified connection wizard, and guided installation to JDBC driver;
  • Support for HTML5 editing in the HTML editor and improved HTML code validation;
  • PHP rename refactoring, safe delete refactoring, and support for aliases in PHP 5.3;
  • Line wrapping;
  • Improved detection of external changes, including native file system listening;
  • Updated support for C/C++, including remote file system browsing, running and debugging of library projects, enhanced templates and specializations;
  • Support for GIT 1.7.x version control system; and
  • Additional enhancements as described on the NetBeans IDE New and Noteworthy page.
