Knovel Adds New Mining/Metallurgy Resources to Tech Collection

A company that makes technical information available in digital form for engineers and scientists has expanded its online collection. Knovel, which publishes a Web-based version of a service with the same name, has added four new sources to its library: United States Pharmacopeia, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME).

The company has licensed the Food Chemicals Codex from the U.S. Pharmacopeia and will add that material to its food science subject area. This codex is a collection of internationally recognized monograph standards and tests for the purity and quality of food ingredients.

Knovel is adding two titles from the OECD: "OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals" and "Good Laboratory Practice--OECD Principles and Guidance for Compliance Monitoring." These sources are used to identify and characterize potential hazards of new and existing chemical substances, preparations, and mixtures.

The other two sources will contribute materials that will be added to a new subject area, Mining Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy, which the company said it would launch this month. That will encompass seven reference titles from ICMM and 36 titles from SME.

Knovel's service provides a search engine designed specifically to help engineers locate information and interactive tools that provide users with a means to make tables, charts, equations, plotters, and graphs interactive. The company offers subscriptions to unique subject areas within its collection.
