Lync Coming to Mac in October

Microsoft Lync for Mac 2011 will be released in October. It's compatible with Lync Server 2010, which lets teachers and students use instant-messaging, video, audio, and Web conferencing to communicate across multiple platforms.

Features of Lync include:

  • Instant messaging status shows if the user is available, in a meeting, or out of the office, based on calendar information;
  • Contact cards, including photos;
  • Electronic transfer of files;
  • Audio and video conferencing, including creating, moderating, and joining online meetings;
  • Desktop sharing;
  • Voice capabilities, including making phone calls from a Mac;
  • Forwarding and transferring calls to various devices and numbers;
  • The ability to set up Lync conferences from Outlook 2011 for Mac;
  • Compatibility with Lync Server 2010 and Lync Online.

Lync for Mac 2011 will be available to customers as a part of the Office for Mac 2011 Volume Licensing SKU, Office for Mac Standard 2011, or through other Microsoft's licensing programs.
