Campus Apartments Now Accepting Rent Payments Through Facebook

Campus Apartments, a company that owns or manages approximately 32,000 beds at more than 70 colleges in 24 states, has upgraded their online account portal interface to provide student tenants and their guardians with the option of paying rent and requesting services through Facebook.

The interface, dubbed SmartClick, has been combined with Facebook Connect to support automatic monthly rent payments, rent payments through credit cards, and maintenance requests from students or student designated users through the social networking site.

"Nearly all our residents and many of their parents are on Facebook throughout the day so this was a natural evolution of the portal," John Ailor, senior director of web and wireless technologies at Campus Apartments, said in a prepared statement.

After completing an initial set up process that involves logging into to SmartClick, logging into Facebook, and allowing an authorization dialog, SmartClick users, a group comprising 27,363 students and parents, can gain access to the portal and it's features anytime they log into face book without entering their SmartClick email and password.

To avoid social networking complications with parents and students, multiple users of the same SmartClick account can access the portal through Facebook without being friends on Facebook.

SmartClick's Facebook connectivity is currently available to all SmartClick users with a Facebook account.

Current SmartClick users can connect their account to Facebook at campusapts.com.
