Nebraska Community College Adopts SaaS Access Control Management
A Nebraska community college has expanded its deployment of a cloud-based system for access control management to include buildings on three campuses.
Central Community College (CCC), headquartered in Grand Island, is using the Web-based Brivo ACS WebService to provide centralized access management to its facilities. Protex Central, locally based in Hastings, served as the integrator for this installation.
Previously, the school used both lock and key and a different access control provider.
"From experience, we knew that customer service with a good turnaround time is quite important to us," said Ed Long, physical plant director at CCC. "We believe the combination of Brivo and Protex gives us the reliability and local service that we need."
After ending a search for a new access management system begun in the spring of 2010, CCC has installed Brivo ACS WebService on exterior doors for maintenance buildings, six dorms, and an administration building, managing access for 500-plus people. In the near future, the college will expand the deployment to include a student services and academic building.
"We have a lot people in and out of maintenance," Long said, "and we have a lot of assets to protect. We're real happy with the Brivo system. The learning curve was short and sweet, and Bill and Protex have provided great technical support."
Features of Brivo ACS WebService include:
- Role-based access for students, vendors, and staff (up to 25,000 per control panel);
- One-button lockdown;
- Matching of access reports and surveillance video;
- Remote management and visibility from any Web browser;
- Delivery of notifications to e-mail, pager, or cell phone;
- Wireless control panel, which provides access control to remote facilities;
- Records of administrative actions in the system;
- Unlimited scalability; and
- Integrated interface for badge creation and design.
Central Community College serves students from 25 counties in central Nebraska. It has campuses in Columbus, Grand Island, and Hastings and educational centers in Holdrege, Kearney, and Lexington. The school also provides distance learning programs to students from 90 communities in the region.
